For a while now I've been thinking about a handlebar pack for the Jones Loop bar; while I love the Revelate Feed Bag, I've been wanting something a little bigger. I rarely use the loop or the cross bar, so I figured it was a good place for a small, easily accessible pack. I have a few friends in town that are making really awesome custom packs, bags and pogies (Stellar Bags being one of them), so I considered having one of them make me a pack. I also considered trying a Revelate Pocket, but in the end I wanted something cheap, or better yet, free...
I'm pretty bad at making things with a sewing machine, but I like having it around to modify stuff. The pack above was made from a rarely used waist pack that happened to fit nicely on the loop of the Jones bars. After a few minutes on the sewing machine and some old straps and buckles from retired helmets, I had myself a handlebar pack...
If I end up liking this spot for a pack, I may still have a custom pack made up for these bars. I can see a small pack that fits down into the loop, and still allowed the use of the bends of the front bar as a hand position, to be a useful addition. If it fit down inside the loop, it would also allow me to run lights or a computer on top of the bar without interference. In the time being, this pack should do the job just fine; I can always run the lights under the bars, and the computer can move to the stem.
I've also been considering a custom pair of Jones-compatible pogies; I have yet to see a set that I like that works with my thumbshifters mounted so far forward. What would be really cool is a set of pogies that connected to a pack that fit inside the loop of the bar... all designed to work together as an integrated unit, or you could use just the pack by itself.
Some days the list of cool parts or accessories for bikes seems never-ending.
Go ride a bike...
