I got out for a tour of the lakes today; I took the creek to Harriet, then Calhoun, Isles, Cedar and finally Brownie. After a quick lap around Brownie, I turned toward home and rode back the way I came. I ended up with 17.5 miles, and I'm guessing about 15 of that was on ice. I rode my DIY studded tires front and back, and they worked great. I'll have more info on how I built them next weekend. For now, here are a few pics from today's ride...
Go ride a bike...

That looks ace!
Never rode on ice before, must be weird looking though below!
great pics, I surprised i haven't run into you this winter as most of our rides are in the same spots. the ice on the lakes right now is really interesting and a bit scarry as your pics clearly show. don't you just love that greenish blue color of the ice right now? Later DR
Great photos as usual. Looks like fun!
Hey guys, and thanks! It's tough not to get a little freaked out when the ice is that clear, and all you see is the blackness of the lake. I try not to think about it, and focus on how cool it looks... when the light is right the cracks make it look like green marble.
It all got covered up today, although it's nice to have a few inches of fresh snow on the ground again. Hopefully we'll get a few more good ice riding days before the season is over.
